David has worked in many different areas of SMC. Joining in 2004 as an office junior, he then moved into the export and marketing sides of the business before entering sales.
Now an experienced sales manager, David’s time spent in different areas of SMC has put him in a perfect position when it comes to the successful management of projects and expectations of his clients. He has a practical understanding of the work and time that’s involved in getting a new product from concept to construction.
A specialist in bespoke trailer and elevating solutions, David is involved in the entire sales process. This includes everything from submitting estimates and onboarding new clients, to managing customer orders and sales reporting.
The variety of his working week, and the opportunities to progress within the business, are two things he enjoys most about working at SMC, as he admits:
“No two days are ever the same, one day I may be climbing up scaffolding to test a mast; the next I’m presenting products to a potential new customer. I like the people and there are lots of opportunities to progress within the company if you have the right attitude and show enthusiasm and a keenness to learn.”
David is most passionate about working on bespoke products and vehicle builds, as these very rarely tend to be straightforward, so are always the most rewarding projects to manage. Some of his projects also take him overseas.
One of David’s favorite projects followed on from a successful trip to Malaysia, where he presented SMC products to two of the country’s largest telecommunications providers.
Working with SMC partners on the ground, he was successful in winning a tender for several 21m heavy-duty telescopic masts and bespoke winch-operated tilt over systems.
Late changes to the vehicle specifications could have caused a delay in the delivery schedule; however, David and the project team pulled out all the stops and delivered a high-quality product solution, on time.
The client was extremely impressed with the solution and the service they received from the whole team at SMC.
Outside of SMC, David is a keen photographer, runner and fisherman. He also likes to invest in the stock market. In his spare time, he’s a profitable forex trader and a regular writer/contributor for Sea Angler magazine.
