11/10/15 – SMC support the Atlantic Drifters sponsors day

As corporate sponsors of the Atlantic Drifters, SMC were invited to attend the Drifters Sponsors Day at the Army Air Corps Centre. Nick Hopkins, MD, and Leanne Gardner, Business Development Manager, had the opportunity to see the boat that Tom and Dave will be rowing across the Atlantic, hear more about their training and the charities they are supporting, and what really is involved in taking part in what is billed as ‘The World’s Toughest Rowing Race’

The 3,000 mile challenge will start on 15th December from the Canary Islands and take them approximately 90 days where they will be living, eating, sleeping in such a tiny boat, enduring whatever weather the Atlantic can throw at them. All this is in aid of two charities close to their hearts: OAKS, (Overseas Aid for the Kids of Sierra Leone), which supports educational needs for the underprivileged children of war-torn Sierra Leone, and DDMT (Dougie Dalzell Mc Memorial Trust) which supports active and retired servicemen and their families.

Leanne also had the opportunity to see what life is like in the Army Air Corps when they are not training to row across the Atlantic by getting a front row seat in the infamous Apache Helicopter.

We are proud to sponsor their efforts and wish them the very best of luck!
